A piece reflecting the architecture I saw in Saudi Arabia, incorporating patterns and tilework designs from a residence. The residence had been designed carefully to include artwork and furnishings from across the Middle East, to demonstrate how artefacts from different countries can live side by side in visual harmony.

​Off the Map
(Featured in The People's History Museum in Manchester)

This charismatic and inspiring freehand piece contains many little pictures and patterns to be discovered. It encourages people to think outside the box and travel ‘off the map’, away from the usual tourist sites, towards searching for languages and rare flowers, and onwards to explore physically and mentally. In the centre are origami maps, which have people’s ‘off the map’ experiences hidden inside them.

Inspired by the traditional embroidery work from Uzbekistan, called suzani, which is sewn into cotton or silk using naturally dyed threads. Flowers and pomegranates are common motifs, the latter being auspicious.

This piece is striking and unusual, and addresses the concept of surveillance. The social media logos, cameras and lenses, barcodes, eyes, location trackers, airport security, reality tv, membership cards with chips, and contactless cards, all provide a sense of being tracked and watched. Features little mirrors.
